Scott "Scout" Durano is a veteran NCO with the United States Marine Corps where he spent 2 and a half years overseas in the Philippines and Mediterranean out of a 4 year enlistment. Scout is also serving nearly 3 decades as a Law Enforcement Officer with the Oak Forest Police Department. As a member of the Chicago Police Marines - Marine Corps League, he lives their motto of "Dedicated Twice by Choice" daily.
Scout is active within the veteran community by serving in officer roles for the Wilmington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5422, Illinois Veterans of Foreign Wars Dist. 18, Alternate Delegate with the Will County Veterans Assistance Commission and The Destroyers Chapter, 2D Marine Division serving the 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion based out of Camp Lejeune N.C.. Scout is also active member with the Marine Vets Motorcycle Club and Peotone American Legion. These organizations have support roles in programs such as The Wall that Heals, Wreathes Across America, USMCR Toys for Tots Foundation and the Manteno Veterans Home (IL) to only mention a few. As if the Veteran activity is not enough, Scout is involved with his son’s Boy Scout Troop 315 where he currently serves as an Adult Leader, Merit Badge Counselor and attends camp outs, outdoor adventures and fundraising activities.
The successful completion of the 2024 Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge™ took Scout from Daytona, Fl., to Key West, FL. to Homer, AK.. Scout ~ Rider #1036, can be considered a Professional Long Distance Rider of sorts. In addition to the difficult and complex route, Scout navigated through Hurricane Debby and completed the challenge within the required time frame to be classified as an "Elite Finisher" without the use of GPS aids or hotel accommodations. This challenge was completed by using paper turn by turn instructions and short naps which were executed by sleeping next to his bike (The Midniter). In additional to the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge™ , he has completed several long distance rides and an official Iron Butt Association Saddle Sore 1000, where he navigated around Lake Michigan (1016 Miles) in 17.5 Hours as IBA Rider #86959. Scout is now seeking additional official rides with the Iron Butt Association, leading up to the 2026 Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge™.
